(WEST CHARLOTTE, NC) — The Knothole Foundation is proud to announce the return of one of its signature events — the 7th Annual Diversity in Baseball HBCU Showcase — which will take place August 5–6 at the Richard “Stick” Williams Dream Fields & Education Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Now in its seventh year, the annual showcase continues to serve as a unique opportunity for high school baseball players from around the country to gain exposure while celebrating the rich tradition of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). The two-day event will bring together talented baseball players, college coaches from HBCUs and traditional colleges and universities, as well as baseball and community leaders for a unique experience focused on competition, education, and opportunity.
MOOKIE WILSON
Highlighting this year’s event will be former New York Mets outfielder, Mookie Wilson, who will serve as the event’s keynote speaker on August 5. Wilson, a member of the Mets Hall of Fame, will share his inspiring journey through baseball while encouraging participants to pursue excellence both on and off the field. Wilson spent 12 seasons in the majors — most notably with the Mets — and was a key member of the organization’s 1986 World Series Championship. A native of Bamberg, SC, Wilson played his first two years of college baseball at Spartanburg Methodist College, before transferring to the University of South Carolina, where he played in the 1977 College World Series. He was a second-round pick of the Mets in the 1977 MLB June Amateur Draft.
Wilson and his family will also be catering food for the event with their family business, Legacy Catering. Food will be provided to all players and coaches on each day of the showcase courtey of Wilson’s family-run business.
In addition to on-field workouts and showcase games, participants will engage in educational programming, leadership development sessions, and networking opportunities with college coaches and baseball professionals. The event is designed to increase awareness of HBCU baseball programs while helping student-athletes connect with meaningful collegiate opportunities.
Since its inception, Knothole’s Diversity in Baseball HBCU Showcase has helped hundreds of young athletes gain exposure to college coaches while reinforcing the importance of education, character, and community leadership.
