(WEST CHARLOTTE, NC) — The Knothole Foundation, in partnership with the Salute to Heroes Charlotte Foundation, is proud to announce that the 92nd Annual Charlotte Chief’s Cup Game will take place on Saturday, September 12 at the Richard “Stick” Williams Dream Fields and Education Center in Charlotte. This historic game will feature the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD Blue Hornets) against the Charlotte Fire Department (CFD Blaze) baseball teams in an exciting nine-inning game. This historic game dates back to the 1930s in Charlotte, NC and is returning to the Queen City for the first time since 2021.
First pitch of the game is set for 7:04 p.m. and gates to this FREE family-friendly event will open at 6:00 p.m. The Richard “Stick” Williams Dream Fields and Education Center is located at 7531 Tuckaseegee Road, Charlotte, NC 28214.
As part of this year’s event, the Salute to Heroes Charlotte Foundation will be accepting donations throughout the evening to continue its mission to help support first responders. Additionally, fans will want to come hungry and thirsty as many delicious food options and drinks will be available to purchase.
A longstanding tradition celebrating community, competition and the connection between baseball and local leadership, the Charlotte Chief’s Cup Game will once again bring together players, families, community members and supporters for a special day at the ballpark. This year’s event will also honor the 25th Anniversary of September 11th with members of both baseball teams from the 2001 teams on hand.
The 92nd Annual Charlotte Chief’s Cup continues the rich history of an event that has become a meaningful part of the community.
“The Knothole Foundation is honored to host this year’s celebration at The Stick, a facility dedicated to creating opportunities for underserved youth through baseball, softball, education and community programming,” stated Tommy Viola, Knothole Foundation’s Chief Communications Officer.
This year’s game returns to Charlotte for the first time in five years after spending the previous three years at Atrium Health Ballpark in Kannapolis, NC at the home of the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers. It was last held in Charlotte in 2021 at Truist Field, home of the Charlotte Knights.
