WEST CHARLOTTE, NC — The Knothole Foundation will host a special “Girls in Sports Day” on Saturday, February 21 at the Richard “Stick” Williams Dream Fields and Education Center with a special preseason varsity softball scrimmage tournament showcasing some of Charlotte’s top high school programs. First pitch of game one of the tournament is set for 9:30 AM on Saturday.

The event — Westside Story — will feature varsity softball teams from West Charlotte High SchoolPhillip O. Berry Academy of Technology, and Mallard Creek High School competing in preseason action as they prepare for the upcoming 2026 season.

Knothole’s first-ever “Girls in Sports Day” is designed to celebrate, empower, and highlight the achievements of female student-athletes while encouraging young girls throughout the community to pursue opportunities in athletics. The preseason tournament provides a competitive platform for local high school athletes and serves as an opportunity for families and community members to support girls’ sports in Charlotte.

“We are proud to celebrate girls in sports to shine a spotlight on these outstanding young women and their programs,” said Tommy Viola, Knothole Foundation Chief Communications Officer. “This event reflects our ongoing commitment to creating opportunities, building confidence, and providing high-quality facilities where student-athletes can thrive.”

The Richard “Stick” Williams Dream Fields and Education Center continues to serve as a hub for youth development, sports programming, and community engagement across Charlotte. The facility is home all-year-round to the Queens University of Charlotte softball team.

Saturday’s event is open to the public, and community members are encouraged to attend and support the teams. Food and drinks will be available for purchase at The Stick on Saturday.
