(WEST CHARLOTTE, NC) — The Knothole Foundation is continuing its commitment to growing opportunities for girls and women in sports by welcoming an inspiring group of athletes to the Richard “Stick” Williams Dream Fields & Education Center this week.
Fresh off hosting high school softball games, softball tournaments, and a free softball clinic for girls, the Knothole Foundation will host CAT 5 (55+) and Hits & Giggle (50+) — two women’s softball teams from the Sassy Softball Sisters League — for a special doubleheader starting at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 21. Both teams won Silver medals in the 2025 North Carolina Senior Games.
The Sassy Softball Sisters League is a fun softball league for women age 50 and older who continue to compete and inspire, proving that passion for the game doesn’t fade with age. Their visit adds another chapter to the growing momentum around girls and women’s sports hosted by the Knothole Foundation. Following that special doubleheader, the Queens University of Charlotte softball team will host a doubleheader against the University of West Georgia. Queens Softball plays all of its home games at “The Stick” on the Knothole Foundation’s state-of-the-art turf field.
This four-game “Softball Day at The Stick” on March 21st highlights the Knothole Foundation’s ongoing effort to showcase female athletes of all ages and to promote lifelong participation in sports.
“We believe girls and women should see that sports can be part of their lives at every stage,” stated Tommy Viola, Knothole Foundation’s Chief Communications Officer. “From youth clinics and high school games to collegiate softball and now a 50+ women’s league, we want The Stick to be a place where female athletes are celebrated and supported. In addition to on-field play, educational programming is always top of mind when hosting events.”
Located in West Charlotte, the Richard “Stick” Williams Dream Fields & Education Center has quickly become a hub for baseball and softball development in the region. With youth clinics, high school competition, collegiate athletics, and community events, the Knothole Foundation is working to create pathways for athletes of all backgrounds to learn, play, and grow through sports and education.
Fans, families, and community members are encouraged to come out and support the games while celebrating the impact of women and girls in athletics. Admission is free to attend these games.
